Many aftermarket BMW Scanner cables use cloned FTDI chips. Windows 11 may block these drivers because they lack a verified digital signature. If your device manager shows a yellow exclamation mark after installing standard drivers, you may need to temporarily disable Driver Signature Enforcement.

Windows 11 requires all hardware drivers to be digitally signed by Microsoft. Because the 64-bit drivers for the old FTDI chip inside the BMW Scanner are modified by the community to work on newer systems, they lack this digital signature. | Problem | Likely Cause | Solution | | :--- | :--- | :--- | | | Missing runtime DLLs (MSVBVM60.DLL) | Download and install the Visual Basic 6.0 runtime libraries (KB290887). Windows 11 does not include them. | | "Cannot open COM Port" | Another app is using the COM port, or port number > 4. | Close any terminal software. Reassign COM port to 1-4 via Device Manager. | | Cable connects, but no modules respond | USB power delivery too low or bad ground. | Check ignition is ON (position 2). Use a short USB cable.
